I used to have Isaiah 43:2 printed on my wall. Literally, printed on my bedroom wall - I used bath sponges that were alphabet shaped and bright turquoise paint.
"When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown."
Notice that it begins "When you go through deep waters" - not "if you go through deep waters."
I think there's sometimes a temptation to think that when we give our lives to Jesus, we are protected from anything bad happening to us. And unfortunately, that isn't the case. What it does mean, is that when we do go through rough patches, God is right there with us and we never have to face anything alone.
I recently came across this adaptation of Psalm 23, which is another of my favourite passages, and it just so happens to nicely tie in with my nautical picture above!

The Lord is my Pilot, I shall not drift.

He steereth me in deep channels;
He keepeth my log.
He guideth me by the Star of Holiness for His Name's sake.

If you are going through a rough patch right now, rest in the comfort that you are not in this alone - the creator of the universe has promised to be there with you. I can't think of anyone better to have by my side during a storm!
