Today is International Day of Charity 2019. Hooray! To anyone reading this who gives their time to work for a charity, we want you to know that we think you're amazing!
If you don't yet volunteer but are thinking about it, here are 3 reasons why giving your time to help others is a great thing to do:
1. It pleases God
In Hebrews 6:10, we read "God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you help his people and continue to help them."
It must be ever so satisfying for God to see his children helping each other out!
2. It is rewarding
There is no other feeling quite like coming home at the end of the day, knowing that you have helped someone. Proverbs 19:17 tells us that "Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done."
3. You were made with gifts that help others
"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10
We all have gifts and talents that are unique to us. What's more, those gifts and talents can help others! Volunteering doesn't have to be a chore: the chances are that you are gifted in an area that you really enjoy, and if you use that gift to serve with then you will enjoy using it to help others!
Why not take the opportunity today to explore ways you could give your time and talents to help others that need them? It may be one of the most rewarding things you do!
