As I was approaching the farm on my way to LCC this week, the gate was closed to cars. This usually means that cows are on the move, so I stayed safely behind the gate and waited for them to emerge.
Sure enough, a few minutes later a cow poked its head around the corner, and proceeded to walk from the milking parlour to the field, followed closely by the rest of the herd.
The farmer was still in the milking parlour, but the cows went ahead and started walking. Across the lanes and entrances to other fields was blue string, and I noticed that the cows never went near it. They simply left the parlour and followed the path in to the field without straying off in to other directions. The farmer was of course around to guide them if they did wander - but he didn't need to; the herd knew exactly where to go. The gates were there to protect them from danger (cars!) and so they were free to walk in to the field that awaited them.
It reminded me of the verse from Isaiah 30:21:
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."
There have often been times in my life where I wasn't sure where to go, but I am always comforted that God has mapped the path for me and knows the directions I need to take. I have my own gates and blue string in place to protect me ,which can be found in the Bible. The Bible isn't a rule book; it is a guide to life and allows me to walk freely on the path that I have been shown. Whenever I am not sure where to go, I pray. Although I have never heard the audible voice of God, you get a sense of where is telling you to go (or where not to go!) and when you get to know Him better; you start to learn which ways He would choose for you to go.
Are you feeling a bit lost and not sure where to go? Be assured that God is waiting for you to ask Him for the directions - he already has a path in mind for you to walk (See Jeremiah 29:11) Have faith that if you ask, "you will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."
Every blessing,
Beth
